Meet the powerhouse players of USA Basketball’s 2024 Olympic dream team

A 41-strong pool of players for the USA’s 2024 Olympic basketball roster was announced on Tuesday, January 23, including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Joel Embiid. In what will be his first Olympic appearance since the 2012 London Games, James will aim for a third gold medal.

The star-studded roster will be whittled down to a 12-man squad for this summer’s Olympics in Paris, where the US will be chasing a fifth consecutive gold medal. There are 28 players in the provisional player pool who have won gold medals at Olympic games or FIBA World Cups, and the total number of gold medals is 23.

According to USA Basketball men’s national team managing director Grant Hill, the United States possesses incredible basketball skills. He is delighted that numerous renowned players have shown their desire to represent our nation at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games. It is an honor to assemble the team that will aid us in achieving our ultimate goal of securing another Olympic gold medal. As we eagerly await the commencement of national team activities, this demanding process will unfold over the next few months.

Following his pledge to the United States last October, Philadelphia 76ers star Embiid will play for the first time. Despite being eligible to play for both France and the United States, the Cameroon-born superstar chose to represent a team that will enter the Olympics as overwhelming gold medal favorites.

Coach Kerr will be assisted by Gonzaga University’s Mark Few, Los Angeles Clippers’ Tyronn Lue, and Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

There are also plans for pre-Olympic games in Las Vegas and London. The US will play Canada on July 10 in Las Vegas, then South Sudan on July 20 and Germany on July 22 in London’s O2 Arena.
